Google has officially released their new Pixel Buds and on the eve of the release, Samsung Electronics has decided to push out an update. The update should be available to all Galaxy Buds owners starting today, and all you need is the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable app. Some of the new features are listed below.
New Tap & Hold Gesture
The Samsung Galaxy Buds now have a tap and hold gesture which seems to be primarily geared toward Spotify Users. If you’re running the latest version of Spotify on your device you can use a single press to listen to your personalized playlist through your Galaxy Buds.
The “Tap & Hold” gesture allows users to launch Spotify and start listening to music from their last point of pause. If you want to change the song simply tap and hold again. This allows you to easily choose a new song from your playlist without needing to open your device.
New Ambient Sound Feature
Galaxy Buds now have a neat little trick allowing the wearer to hear ambient sound automatically. Samsung hasn’t had this feature as of yet but the general gist is when its enabled you can still hear surrounding sounds even if you’re listening to your favorite music or podcast.
Furthermore, this feature should work even if you only have a single bud in. You will have an option to simply tune in or tune out the ambient surround. This can be advantageous if you’re in a work space or you’re waiting on someone that you don’t want to sneak up behind you.
Windows 10 Pairing
You can now pair your Galaxy Buds to your Windows 10 powered device. This makes the buds compatible with Microsoft Swift Pair, and works on both desktop and laptop devices.
This allows you to pair your high-quality earbuds to your favorite device for when you’re working or watching another odd Netflix series.
This looks to be squarely aimed at competing with the new Google Pixel Buds as the update came a bit out of nowhere. Furthermore, the fact that it was launched on the same day the press embargo was lifted and orders were being taken is an obvious sign of Samsung trying to beef up their own offering.
If you’re a user of the Galaxy Buds feel free to comment below on your experience with them otherwise, I am currently waiting for my pair of Pixel Buds to be delivered!
