A low-tech solution to a real world problem. I have a couch, that is a fabric material and certain types of clothing notably wool socks, will create fuzzys. Fuzzys as I am dubbing them are little collections of lints and fabric that stick to everything. I found them to be quite annoying as my oatmeal colored couch would now be covered in black dots from socks and other clothing items.
So, naturally I went to Amazon and settled on a product, the Magictec Rechargeable Fabric Shaver. Now I want to point something out, many of the comments in the negative category mentioned if you leave a review you get a $10 Amazon Credit. I didn’t get offered any credit nor did I see a way to claim it. Therefore, I am going to assume that if it is true its on a limited basis but I never got offered one.
Design & User Experience
One thing that stood out to me about this particular shaver compared to some of the competition, is it was very attractive looking. It has a simple clean pill like design, matte black and was just nice to look at. The device uses a micro usb cable to charge and they mention it takes 2 hours to charge to get 1 hour of usage. I have yet to experience any major issues I will note that my girlfriend has a cotton sweater and during usage a loose strand was run over with the shaver and it stopped the blades from running (effectively clogging). The workaround was to turn off the shaver and simply pull back and it let the strand go easily.
I have not experienced any sort of issues mentioned with the device smoking. I will say I don’t run it extensively I used it on my couch, and on all the problem causing socks and it did them all with no issue (about a 40 minute task give or take). I also ran it on some cheap slippers I also got on Amazon and no issue. It works on a variety of fabrics from wool socks, t-shirts, my couch, etc and I have yet to run into any issues.
Shortcomings
My biggest complaint is going to come down to the blades, while it works well for fabrics you can tell if you have a lot of fuzzies or pilings it will slow down. Its sort of like using a cheap razor on your face a cheap blade is more likely to cut you and that’s what you come to expect. The cheap blades do slow down when working with a lot of pilings but for something that cost me $13 I am willing to accept that.
Should You Pay For A Better Fabric Shaver
The Magitec Rechargeable Fabric Shaver is great for the price and that goes without saying. If you’re someone who needs to regularly shave a large amount of clothes particularly cotton or wool sweaters I would say skip this product. The reason is you’re going to get annoyed with the blade slowing down. Also, while the pill design works for a couch cleanup or a pair of socks doing it for a large number of sweaters would get annoying. Alwayslux has a product that looks to be designed for that outlier use case but for the average user who has a few items that need it for every once in a while. For the price, it just makes sense and is worth the investment. I am happy with it, I don’t have any more annoying pilings (fuzzies) on my couch and I am happy to have it!
The Review
Magitec Fabric Shaver
The Magitec Fabric Shaver is a useful and cheap fabric shaver found on Amazon. My experience with the product found it to be fine for smaller clothes and my couch. If you're needing a fabric shaver routinely though for a lot of large clothing I would say use another brand.
